The Bath House on Javaplein opened in 1942 her doors and was on of the last public baths built in Amsterdam. It quickly became a central meeting place for local residents. In the 70s, the number of users quickly declined, as more and more people got their own showers at home. Right behind the bar you can still see were previously the shower cubicles for the ladies were. In 1982 the Bath House closed its doors and forever lost its function as a bathhouse. After closing the Bathhouse did function as a Hindu temple and a charity store, before it turned into a horeca location in the early 90s. After many changes of ownership and name, the Bath House now has its old name back, and even its original function as a central meeting place for the locals.
