Red Hook
Red Hook is the oasis outside the City that's SO close to the City. An old fishing and shipping neighborhood, Red Hook houses some of the friendliest businesses - and people, in all of the five boroughs, due largely in part to its NYC meets New England vibes. You won't find high-end boutiques or five-star restaurants, but everything combined will make up an all-around five-star experience unlike any other in NYC (and, trust - you'll discover a handful of other gems not on this list, too).

I always stop at Dry Dock for a little somethin' somethin' on my day trips to Red Hook. With an impressive selection of wine, the shop also does right by supporting its neighbors - carrying the likes of Widow Jane and other Brooklyn and NYC based spirit brands. While not huge, the shop itself is light, airy and roomy... which makes it feel expansive, leaving plenty of room for miniature bottles of fernet and rosé in a can. Yes, please. And, treat yourself to a tasting if the timing is right!
