Covent Garden is a popular tourist spot that is defined between Long Acre (north), Strand (south), Drury Lane (east) and St Martin’s Lane (west). It quite literally has a colourful past, known for its fashionable fruit and vegetable market then later becoming a red light district. Nowadays you can still experience the beautiful buildings and hidden windy streets that house many major cultural venues, independent shops and cafes, world-class restaurants and high-end hotels.

It doesn’t have to be an expensive night out at the picturesque Royal Opera House; cheap last minute tickets to major opera and ballet shows will transform a rainy weekday evening. Although if you’re feeling flush, good seats and pre-ordering a cocktail at the interval ensures a good night. The high seats are not so much recommended to those with a fear of heights.
