Founded in 1781, the oldest of all the L.A. neighborhoods, Downtown Los Angeles also seems to be the newest because of the accelerated urban revitalization and rapidly growing skyline. While we're living and working here, we are witness to Downtown's second golden age, revealing cultural shifts, design cues and typography trends reminiscent of the city's first golden age in city living, speakeasies, sign painting, craft cocktails, public transit and more.

The Los Angeles Central Library is vast, not only with books, but with culture. Readings, events and exhibitions keep us on our toes with well-attended speaking events, classes and workshops. This gem is a great example of Beaux-Arts architecture, constructed in 1926. Be sure to set aside some time to wander through all seven levels of book collections. It's the center of our city's library network, which is one of the largest publicly funded library systems in the world with over six million volumes. So, it's pretty much everything you might want to know about life, in one building.
