One of the most iconic pieces of architecture in the city is the Los Angeles International Airport Theme Building at LAX. Paul Revere Williams, one of its architects, made West Adams his home. He was California’s first licensed African-American architect, and in his prolific career designed over 3000 buildings worldwide. One of these buildings is the Golden State Mutual Life Insurance Building, which houses the Paul Revere Williams Memorial in its outdoor plaza. The centerpiece, a bronze bas relief sculpture, was created by local West Adams artist, Georgia Hanna Toliver. Visit to learn about the architect’s challenges and celebrate his design contributions.
