Fort

The South-Bombay neighbourhood of Fort is an interesting dichotomy. It’s equal parts financial district and arts district, encompasses the city’s hippest enclave, Kala Ghoda. Named after the defensive Fort George, a former fortification built under British rule, today Fort boasts some of the best in architecture, food, culture, shopping and sights in Mumbai. Best of all it’s pedestrian friendly and the sort of neighbourhood you’d be happy to spend the whole day in.

Despite other instagram-friendly cafes like The Pantry and The Nutcracker popping up in the neighbourhood, Kala Ghoda Cafe remains a fixed favourite. They bake their own bread and the gluten-free waffles and chocolate, ginger and carrot cakes are excellent. The walls are often host to interesting art exhibitions. A larger second space can accommodate their overspill but we’re still always trying to bag their pintsized mezzanine.
