Split

Located right on the Adriatic coast, Split is the second biggest city in Croatia. The biggest in Dalmatia. It has history dating back to Ancient Greece, and more visibly, Ancient Rome. The city is centered around Diocletian’s Palace, an expansive retirement palace built by the Roman emperor at the turn of the 4th century. Today, the palace is a UNESCO World Heritage site and very much a living monument, home to many of Split’s best restaurants, cafés and shops. Many visitors pass by Split on the way to the many islands accessible by its busy port without truly getting to experience all that this beautiful and historic city has to offer. There is nothing quite like getting lost within the labyrinth of ancient walls and finding the perfect café to sit back, relax, and immerse yourself in the laid-back culture of Dalmatia. PS: While often upstaged by its southern neighbor, Dubrovnik, Split too has been a filming site for Game of Thrones.

Overwhelmed by work and parenthood, best friends Zrinka and Anamaria decided to start a business together in an effort to spend more time together. Catering to young tourists with active lifestyles, the two decided to serve up healthy fast food, a fresh option for people who are on the go. The rustic décor speaks to its menu of everything from “the classics” to many healthy variations of burgers and local specialties, as well as a selection of healthy desserts. Photos by Simona Svalina
