An enormous and unique cemetery, located on the slopes of Montjuïc with views overlooking both the Mediterranean Sea and the city. The cemetery is characterised by its steep paths and artwork strewn between the tombs. Famous artists from many different eras, including Joan Miró, are resting in this necropolis or have left their footprints here. It’s worth taking one of the guided tours on offer: one ‘historical’ tour which takes you round the tombs of important figures in Catalan history; another ‘artistic’ tour will point out the various works and periods that are featured throughout the space. Tours are conducted on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month, at 11am. It’s a free activity and there’s no need to book in advance.
