Poble Sec & Montjuïc

Poble Sec Montjuïc is an area of wonderful contrasts: On one hand there’s Poble Sec, a neighbourhood that feels like its own little town, where beer and tapas bars are nestled alongside beautiful local shops. On the other hand, there’s the mountain of Montjuïc, home to the Universal Expo of 1929 and the Olympic Games in 1992. Keep an eye out and you’ll find beautiful gardens perfect for sunbathing and a wealth of cultural activities.

The Greek theatre of Barcelona wasn’t, in fact, contracted by the Greeks. It was built in 1929 for the International Expo along with other examples of architectural design found on the mountain of Montjuïc, such as the Barcelona Pavilion or the monumental palace which houses MNAC (the National Art Museum of Catalonia). During the hotter months, the Greek theatre is used for open air performances, but throughout the rest of the year, it’s perfect for making the most of a sunny morning by sitting and reading a book in the gardens.
