Eagle Rock
A huge boulder overlooks Eagle Rock from the north and the shadow it casts when the sun hits just right gives the neighborhood its name. The eagle, though, isn’t the only reason for its Small Town USA feel. Eagle Rock Blvd and Colorado Blvd are the only main veins where restaurants dotting along give the town its growing, and unassuming, foodie reputation - even if many of them have been around for solid decades. Since 1914, Occidental College has attracted scholars, and additionally, artists have also felt the draw. There’s a refreshingly slower pace, compared to the rest of LA, that completes the Craftsman house and Spanish bungalow setting.

Acorn is part gardening shop and part boutique offering, as they mention, “useful and beautiful things that make our lives a little happier.” I’m on board with that; it also makes finding a gift easy. These lifestyle goods and trinkets from local and small lines blend well with a charming selection of indoor and outdoor plants. Their back garden is also worth a peek whether you’re on the hunt for outdoor furniture, pots and plants or you just want a little bit of tranquility.
