Northern Liberties

Located just north of Old City, Northern Liberties is one of Philly's most popular neighborhoods filled with boutique shops, bars and restaurants. Cheap studio space lured artists from Old City in the 90's and the neighborhood has been in transition since. Now an established neighborhood, Northern Liberties may not be cheap anymore, but it's lure and charm are as strong as ever.

Northern Liberties itself is accessible by public transportation with El stations at either end (Spring Garden and Girard) but other areas—such as Fairmount or parts of South Philly—can be a little tricky to get to. If you’re visiting the city—or if you don’t own a bike—Philly’s new bike share program can help you get in, out and around the neighborhood swiftly. The bikes have front and rear baskets, and are generally suitable for all levels of riders. Check out the kiosk for a map of other Indego locations, pay with a credit card ($4 for every half hour), and get riding.
