Northern Liberties

Located just north of Old City, Northern Liberties is one of Philly's most popular neighborhoods filled with boutique shops, bars and restaurants. Cheap studio space lured artists from Old City in the 90's and the neighborhood has been in transition since. Now an established neighborhood, Northern Liberties may not be cheap anymore, but it's lure and charm are as strong as ever.

Mention the Piazza to those who live in the area, and you’ll get mixed reviews. On one hand, it’s a little bit like a campus quad (with less learning going on) and the surrounding retail and restaurants—as a whole—leave a lot to be desired. On the other hand, neighbors may remember gathering at the Piazza to watch the Phillies work their way through the playoffs on the jumbotron, surrounded by a throng of cheering friends and fellow Philadelphians. It was the next best thing to being at Citizen’s Bank Park itself. The Phillies are a long way from regaining their glory, but occasionally the Piazza still feels like a good place to hang out.
