South Kensington
For better or for worse, South Kensington is a neighborhood in transition. Fancy new developments are popping up everywhere, but like so many areas of Philadelphia, the true appeal of South Kensington comes from it’s rich history and amalgamation of cultures. Although South Kensington isn’t (yet) the tourist destination that neighboring Northern Liberties or Fishtown are touted as, it still has much to offer.

At first glace, Jerusalem is nothing to write home about, but look past the fluorescent deli lighting and some clutter and you’ll see this corner store is chock full of treats that can be difficult to find elsewhere: throughout several ownerships, this storefront has offered up Middle Eastern groceries for 33 years. In recent years the current owner started offering a small selection of food: the shawarma and falafel come highly recommended. And unsurprisingly, the hummus knocks Sabra out of the park.
