Peter and Paul Fortress
Peter and Paul Fortress - is one of the first citiy constructions. It’s not a medieval-style castle as it might seem from the title. It’s a complex of buildings located on a separate island in the heart of the city and enclosed by a high wall around its perimeter. The fortress was built for defense, but now this territory is very peaceful and cozy, you can even walk on the protective wall and admire the city from a height. The whole area is dotted with paved paths. Countless small museums settled on the both sides of these roads. You can find here one of the famous symbols of St. Petersburg - the Peter and Paul Cathedral. If you go to the fortress over the Kronversky bridge, you'll find a small square, which offers an incredible view of the city - outlook of the whole delta of the Neva river, the arrow of Vasilevsky Island, Palace Bridge and Winter Palace. You can sit for hours on the stone beach, listen to the lapping of the river and enjoy the view.
