Morningside
Smith's Olde Bar
One could make a strong argument that Smith's is the best small-venue music room in the city. They’ve been hosting new, local or up-and-coming bands for more than 20 years, but this summer news announced that they could be forced out of their building on Piedmont and Monroe. The woman who owned the patch of property passed away in March and developers are eyeing this corner at the busy intersection. Right now, the future is unknown for Smith’s, which will remain open at least through the end of the year. The dive bar décor is framed day-of posters and band stickers, the floors are sticky, and the liquor selection runs from cheap whiskey to less-cheap whiskey, but I know the stories that fill these walls are endless. It’s impossible to think of Morningside, even Atlanta, without Smith’s Olde Bar.
