Ukrainian Village
This historic district is home to both old and new — century-old cathedrals share real estate with trendy cafes. As the traditionally working-class Eastern European enclave draws in younger residents, with it comes creativity in the form of forward-thinking restaurants, innovative cocktail bars and specialty boutiques. But that's not all there is — the spirit of Ukrainian Village endures through its welcoming accessibility.

Ukrainian Village is lucky enough to be sandwiched in between two stellar coffee roasters: Dark Matter to the West and Asado to the East. When we need our cortado fix though, we find ourselves heading to Asado. They have three locations around the city, though it’s this one that roasts for their downtown location as well. They were the first shop in the city to exclusively pour over coffees and they’re no slouch in the espresso department, either. It’s always easy to find seating in the bright, minimal space and if you stop in at the right time, you may get treated to the smell of freshly roasting beans.
