Greater Sharpstown
Greater Sharpstown encompasses an area of approximately 10 square miles; bounded by the Westpark Tollway to the north, 59 and Bissonnet to the south, Beltway 8 to the west, and Hillcroft to the east. For us, it's pretty much about the rich food scene. Generally speaking, you will find predominantly South Asian establishments near Hillcroft and 59, where a bronze Ghandi monument marks the entrance to the newly established Mahatma Ghandi district. As you head further west through the district you head east on your culinary adventure. Running for miles along Bellaire Boulevard is Chinatown which boasts hundreds of restaurants and shopping malls frequented by people of different ethnicities. We approached the task of documenting this neighborhood with great zeal but were soon daunted by the dizzying array of options. Our list is only the tip of the iceberg, there is simply so much to discover in this thriving international community.

Craftex has a great offering of discounted, current books. There are aisles of titles covering art, design, architecture, fashion, interiors, gardening, cooking and more. There are also candles, silk flowers, ribbon (good grosgrain selection), garden sculptures, pots, fountains, and a massive Christmas decor annex. The rows of decoratives, fake fruit, vases, ornaments etc. are fun to browse but for us the books alone make the journey worthwhile. Note: Craftex is a bit hidden and technically outside of the Greater Sharpstown boundary. Also, they are a wholesaler and require a tax id.
