Greater Sharpstown
Greater Sharpstown encompasses an area of approximately 10 square miles; bounded by the Westpark Tollway to the north, 59 and Bissonnet to the south, Beltway 8 to the west, and Hillcroft to the east. For us, it's pretty much about the rich food scene. Generally speaking, you will find predominantly South Asian establishments near Hillcroft and 59, where a bronze Ghandi monument marks the entrance to the newly established Mahatma Ghandi district. As you head further west through the district you head east on your culinary adventure. Running for miles along Bellaire Boulevard is Chinatown which boasts hundreds of restaurants and shopping malls frequented by people of different ethnicities. We approached the task of documenting this neighborhood with great zeal but were soon daunted by the dizzying array of options. Our list is only the tip of the iceberg, there is simply so much to discover in this thriving international community.

Fungs is a frequent Sunday ritual and it's always crowded. Families and large groups gather around Lazy Susans creating a noisy and happy atmosphere. The carts come frequently and are well stocked with a fantastic variety of dim sum. There is always something new. Pork, shrimp, and vegetables form the basis for much of the fare, but ribs, mushrooms, duck, almond tea with puff pastry and lots of sweet and savory filled buns offer interesting variety. Don't forget to check the buffet for special items.
