Terreaux

You’re in the center of Lyon, Place des Terreaux, where tourists and locals mingle around the Bartholdi fountain. This large public square is surrounded by the City Hall and the Museum of Fine Arts. Daniel Buren has marked some of his famous stripes, but time has done its work and the restoration of the square is a touchy matter. Dive into the small surrounding streets to find out the gems of this district, one of the densest in Europe. Strolling around, you will come across the Place Sathonay, the peaceful courtyard of the Museum of Fine Arts; Great restaurants; galleries and designer boutiques to check out. You’ll realize there is no reason to go to the square other than to use the metro.

Archipel is an urban culture center dedicated to cities and contemporary architecture. Nestled at the front of the Museum of Fine Arts, the center is a quiet and bright space, where you can see temporary exhibitions and a 1/1000 scale model of the city of Lyon. To get to Archipel, you’ll have to go through Archilib, a specialized bookshop filled with great books. Architecture, urbanism, urban art, design, graphic design… Plenty of quality references to check out.
