The Dutch often avoid this part of the city, or cycle through it as fast as they can, ringing their bell to warn unobservant tourists that they are about to pass. This area is bustling with tourists. It is the heart of the city and for some tourists, with the red light district and coffee shops, the only neighbourhood to visit in Amsterdam. But there are many good places for more sophisticated people. You just need to know where.

Hannekes Boom

Are you looking for a nice place by the water? Take a seat outside at one of the picknick tables at Hanneke’s Boom. You can enjoying the sun with a drink and some friends, by the water and watch boats pass by. It is a big place, so also convenient for larger groups. Great for some afternoon drinks. The staff could be a bit more friendly but once you are outside, the view is very forgiving.
