This traditionally Slavic neighborhood has a storied history, starting out as farmland before turning into the culturally diverse hotspot it is now. Home to both a waterfront of warehouses and close-knit family communities to the East, the area has seen a burst of new businesses and curious dwellers alike.

There’s a rich history to be found at this corner location. Owning quite possibly the busiest intersection in the neighborhood on Franklin St. and Greenpoint Ave., Pencil Factory is a discrete bar standing proud of its roots. It was originally a hangout for fisherman a few blocks away on the East River in the early 1900’s. After that, it serviced the bustling and iconic pencil factory across the street – giving workers a place to relax after their work day. After the neighborhood slowly morphed into a livable and lively place, the bar kept its simple facade. The patrons have surely changed, but the charm is still very much there.
