The city bills itself as the "Venice of America" but I don't know about all that. It is however, a pretty eclectic area with no shortage of sunshine or things to do. You can kayak through rich people's backyards, wander into a silent disco or find a coffee shop through a bookcase. What it lacks in mega-clubs & overpriced drinks, it makes up for with unique characters and some good vibes.
Fort Lauderdale is littered with waterways and channels, which can make for some great kayaking.
You can get eye level with everything from an alligator to a sea otter.
Asian-American comfort food is most certainly a real thing, and it is fantastic. Temple Street Eatery is primarily a dumpling and noodle bar that has the best miso-ramen pork belly soup I've ever eaten. You're safe to try any dish off that menu, every single one of them is delicious.
